Essential Oil Dilution Methods

Ingredients Used

Base: Oil, lotion, bath, salts, etc….
Essential Oil Blend

Instructions for Dilution

Other than baths or aromatherapy diffusors, which should be limited to 7-12 drops maximum, dilution is done by weight.

That means using a scale and weighing your base. Then, you figure a percentage of that (depending on what the base is), and weigh that amount of essential oils. It’s better to make small batches because Essential Oils can get expensive. Also, different ones weigh different amounts. It takes a little bit to get the hang of it, but you develop a natural sense of how much you need. (Usually more than your nose thinks because of evaporation and scent loss)

Blending Essential Oils can get tricky and it does change their chemical composition, thus changing the therapeutic properties. I would stick with known safe blends or have them blended by an Aromatherapist to be safe. If all else fails, stick to one at a time, and research it thoroughly. You can see the Dilutions and Scenting Guides below for more detailed information.
